Overview
Accessible via your Services menu or the client record, you are now able to issue refunds and credit notes directly through Practice.
Issuing a refund
Go to Services > Transactions
Once you click into an invoice paid through Stripe, you should be given an option to either issue a refund or a credit note:
When issuing a refund, you are given a few fields:
1. The refund amount: You can only refund the amount charged *or* the amount left over on the invoice if a refund has already been given.
2. Reason: We follow Stripe's standards on this
3. Details: This is an internal field for you to track
The refund will then show up as a note at the bottom of the invoice
Issuing a credit note
1. Credit amount: Can't be bigger than the original amount.
2. Reason: We follow Stripe's standards here
3. You can choose out of 3 credit types:
Refund - this will add a credit note *and* issue a refund
Credit customer's balance - This will add a credit to the customer's Stripe account and apply it to the next invoice
Credit outside of Stripe - This note will just live on the invoice if you've given the client a credit outside of Stripe (maybe issued a check, etc).
4. Details: An internal note
A credit note will be added to the bottom of the invoice
You can also issue a refund and a credit note through the client's record, by just clicking on the invoice:
FAQs
Why am I not given an option to refund or issue a credit note?
This is likely because you've already refunded or credited the original amount. Or, the invoice was manually marked as paid instead of paid through Stripe.
